Doing our part for Australian wildlife...

Why koalas?

Koalas are small, tree-climbing marsupials, found in the East and Southeast of Australia, where they live high up in eucalyptus trees.

The leaves of these trees also make up the bulk of their diet. Eucalyptus leaves are toxic and have a low nutrient content, which means koalas need to sleep up to 23 hours a day, to conserve their energy.

As a proudly Australian brand, specialising in products which help our customers relax, sleep and ‘hang out’ in trees, supporting koalas was an easy decision for us.

When you purchase one of our hammocks, you can rest easy (literally!) in the knowledge that you are not only choosing a high-quality hammock, but also helping Australian wildlife.

The plight of the koala

Sadly, large areas of koala habitat are being lost every day, due to logging, deforestation and development. This has caused the koala population to decline by two thirds in the last 20 years.

On top of this, the Black Summer bush fires of 2019/20 had a devastating impact on koalas. 5.1 million hectares of land burned in New South Wales alone, and conservationists estimate that as many as 30% of the koala population (around 5000) in this area perished.

Many more animals were injured, or left without a home.

Charities such as the Australian Koala Foundation, alongside wildlife hospitals, rescue centres and concerned Australians, were, and continue to be, a vital source of help to this vulnerable species.

About the Australian Koala Foundation

The Australian Koala Foundation conducts important work in helping to conserve koalas and their habitat.

They assist koalas in a number of ways, including through research and education of the public, and by raising money to help wild koalas, via their adoption program.

One of the foundation’s primary goals is to keep the Koala Habitat Atlas up-to-date. This atlas aims to identify, map and rank the koalas’ habitat, using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.

This information can then be used by conservationists, to encourage land-use planners to conserve important habitat, and protect it from human development.

The charity is also striving for the enactment of the Koala Protection Act, which will afford koalas and their habitat greater legal protection.

Our commitment to help

At, we are proud to donate 10% of all our profits to the Australian Koala Foundation. We believe in sustainability, and that companies have a responsibility to their local community – and to us, that looks like helping to keep our native koalas around, for generations to come.
